No. That didn’t say ‘Phoenix Penn, as in, Phoenix Pennsylvania.’ And yes, I was asked that question once when I wore a sweatshirt proclaiming my allegiance to what I view as the coolest place ever. Though come to think of it, if there WAS a ‘Phoenix, Pennsylvania’, I’d like, move there tomorrow. Anyways, I’m probably not making much sense right now.
Phoenix Penna is a latin term, standing for ‘Phoenix Feather’. In the mythical world? It is the incantation that emblazons an Aurora Borealis-like, phoenix feather, among the stars. This incantation is used by the Light, as they stand in their struggle against the ‘Dark’. This online RPG-community is more than just a website however. It’s more than the 269+ characters, it’s more than a blog, a store, fan fictions, graphics, 140,000+ posts, hundreds of topics, and strips of HTML code …though it’s all of those things too. The community, and the collaborative imagination is what makes it all worth it. Their are more than fourty dedicated members to the site, whom spend hours online each day, and even more when it comes to texting, aiming, emailing, phone-calls, and on rare occassions- in person…obsessing about this, talking about this, singing about this, writing that..etc..etc..
As one person {Dea!} said, “Y’all seem to care more than real life friends…’
While some people might take that to mean ‘STALKER!’, we take it to mean, hey. We’re going to go lock someone in a room, set up a weekend-long clue hunt based loosely on Agatha Christie’s ‘And Then There Were None’, and write about everything while there. You want to join us? There’s nothing else to it. We’re there for each other.
We’re one, crazy, dysfunctional, probably mentally insane, family. What could be better?
Then, there’s the writing itself. Since I was little, I’ve lived in my own world. [But it's ok, they know me there!] Creating, dreaming, and living in a fantasy…one of my favorite quotes is, “You must stay drunk on fantasy, so that reality doesn’t destroy you…” Don’t say I don’t live in reality, because I do get it, I just understand the importance of escape as well. Stories, the imagination, and the best friends in the world can be found here at Phoenix Penna.
And that’s what makes it worth it. Phoenix Penna truly is, where imagination knows no bounds.
Abi, this is awesome, I’m pretty sure that no one could have said this any better. You’re just thatttt amazing as a writer, and a person. <3 Phoenix Penna rocks! && We should make Phoenix Pennsylvania… Anyway, when we have our PP con (that will SO be the day) I’m reading this aloud to everyone. The entirety of this blog. Plus, I’m reading this often for updates. =]
